The Broken Wishbone Ranch breeding program is dedicated to the preservation of the working  horse.  Currently we are building a small band of foundation quarter horse mares and breeding them to the best working  horses that we can find.

Our goal is to provide the sport and ranch horse industry with animals that are natural athletes, have good minds and yet are of show quality.

We carefully select a stallion for bloodlines that will complement each mare's potential.  Then conformation, disposition and athletic ability of the stallion are carefully reviewed.

While there is no bad color in a good horse we like to see color in our foals! We do not breed for color but consider it to be icing on the cake.

We have a carefully controlled feeding program consisting of top quality Bermuda hay only! Alfalfa is for cows and we recommend you do NOT feed it to your horses as part of their daily feeding schedule.

Our broodmares are supplemented with a good broodmare pellet starting their last trimester up until weaning. We do NOT  supplement  our nursing mares with alfalfa as we consider it unnecessary except for the occasional hard keeper.

We start creep feeding our foals on equine jr. at around six weeks of age, gradually increasing their ration until weaning at around five months. They start their immunization and worming program at four months of age. Genetics pre determines what your colt ( or filly) will be when he is grown and a good feeding program will help him to reach his full genetic potential. You can NOT feed him into being what he is not but you can cause or aggravate a number of health problems such as epiphysitis, founder or colic.

While we sell some of our colts as stud prospects we are always willing to geld to suit the customer. We believe strongly in the old adage that if he will make a good stallion then he will  make an even better gelding. Most people should NOT own a stallion, there are plenty of them out there to breed to.

All our horses are on a regular schedule of trimming and/or shoeing  and worming every  eight weeks.

Last but not least we believe in regular veterinary care and all our horses are immunized regularly with a 4-way shot and now against west nile virus and have their teeth floated regularly.   Our mares are examined yearly for breeding soundness and for wellness checks immediately after foaling.

A good horse is a joy to own. To ride him is to love him. Protect your investment, feed him well, vet and trim him regularly.

Here  on the ranch it is our privilege to work with these fine animals on a daily basis, we wish the same for you!
